You awoke with a jump in the middle of the night. You hadn’t been doing much sleeping for the past week or so, what with your sudden insomnia and terrible nightmares. Why had you been having so much trouble with this? You weren’t to sure.
Turning your head, you saw the digital numbers on the clock read 2:00 a.m. You then turned your head in the opposite direction, seeing Jake’s bare back. You softly poked his shoulder to see if he was awake. He shuffled a bit, but said nothing.
To be honest, you were afraid to go back to sleep. Jake could usually help you calm down and stay at ease for the remainder of the night, but you didn’t want to wake him. You wanted him to cradle you for just a bit so he could make you feel safe.
You sighed, knowing you were going to have to deal with not being hugged. But maybe... you could hug him.
Quickly and carefully, you wrapped your arms around Jake’s torso, squeezing him tightly. You could smell the Old Spice bodywash he used. You could feel his heart racing in his chest as he dreamed of his amazing adventures. As you hugged him, you felt so safe. Even if his arms weren’t wrapped around you, you felt protected just being right next to him.
“...Love you, [Name]...” Jake muttered, rolling around in your arms to face you. He wrapped his arms around you, enveloping you in a gentle hug.
You knew the nightmares would never harm you if Jake was around.
