The sky was bright blue outside the diner’s freshly cleaned glass windows. The sun shined with all its might, lighting the entire building. It was around 12:30, and the diner was packed with customers ready to consume a sandwich or two on their lunch break. The place wasn’t fancy or anything, just an average little food joint - but damn, was it tasty.

You sat in a red booth across from your good friend, Vlad. He had offered to buy you lunch, since he had raided most of the food from your fridge that week. His excuses varied from things like, “I haven’t gone grocery shopping in ages, and your fridge is full...” to, “Well, um- you’re the one who finished off a loaf of my bread a couple weeks ago!” You decided not to argue and just accept his so called ‘apology.’

Vlad deviously eyed the menu, obviously looking for the most filling dish. He glanced over the pages at you. “What are you getting?” He questioned.

“Hm?” You looked up at him from your menu, a bit dazed. “Oh, I think I’ll just get the [f/f] with some fries.”

“Sounds good,” He replied with a smile and a lick of the lips.

A waitress made her way to the table to take your orders. Vlad politely let you order first, then he placed his own. She walked off to put in your orders, saying the dishes would be out shortly.

The waitress was right; the food only took about fifteen to twenty minutes or so to arrive. She placed a plate of [f/f] and fries in front of you, and a large bowl of Zama soup in front of Vlad. As soon as the woman left, Vlad immediately dug into his soup, apparently dying of hunger.

“Vlad,” You said with a snap of your fingers, making him stop shoving his face for a moment, “would you mind passing me the salt?”

Vlad nodded and picked up the salt shaker, passing it across the table to you. As you reached to pick it up, however, you accidentally knocked it over. Grains of salt went spilling all over the table.

“Dammit...” You muttered, picking up the shaker and setting it aside.

Vlad blinked, staring at you intently. His eyes seemed to be filled with... fear? “[Name], you spilled the salt!” He cried, “Toss it over your shoulder, quick!”

You gave him a confused look. “What are you talking about?”

“Don’t you know?” He said, “When you knock over the salt, it causes great misfortune. If you don’t toss the spilled grains over your shoulder, the diavol could ruin your purity!”

Not exactly sure how to react to this, you simply rolled your eyes. You knew that Vlad was definitely the type to be superstitious, but you didn’t believe most of the crazy legends that he always told. They didn’t terrify you, but you didn’t really like them. “I am not doing that.”

“[Name], please...” Vlad pleaded with you, “You must! I don’t want you to be hurt!”

His pouting lip, watery eyes, and intertwined hands were pulling at your heartstrings. Finally, you had had enough. You swept the salt off the table into your hand, and carelessly tossed it over your shoulder. You glanced over at Vlad for approval, and his face was showing complete relief.

Without warning, Vlad grabbed your face, gently caressing it. “Are you alright, [Name]? Did the diavol hurt you?” He repeatedly kissed your cheeks, forehead, and nose, praying that you were alright.

“Why are you touching me?” You asked, looking at him with a daggering stare, your face only a bit flushed.

Vlad must’ve been unsure exactly what he was doing, because he quickly released you from his light grip. “Sorry...” You could help but giggle at his expression. This caused him to snicker, and soon enough the two of you were in a laughing fit.

Suddenly, something tapped the table, causing both of your to quiet down.

A man towered over the two of you, a plate in hand. On the plate was what seemed to be a chocolate brownie covered in white grains of... salt.

“Thanks for ruining my dessert, you asshole teens,” He muttered, throwing the plate on the table and stomping off in a huff.

As soon as he was out of sight, your laughing fit started up again.

This is for the theme 'Salt' for the 100 Theme Challenge.
I dunno if you guys know this, but I love Romania. He is such a cool guy, and a sweetheart, too.~ c:
Anyways, I hope I got his personality right. I attempted to get it to a tee, but I'm not sure if I did. :(
This story is based on the mythos of salt spilling which comes from the Roman Catholic Church.
I hope it turned out okay! :3
